Organized by: University of Ottawa

Developed with the support of the Institute for Science, Society, and Policy (ISSP) at the University of Ottawa, this panel will address the role of expertise in science policy from a range of different perspectives including academia, policy and civil society as well as the natural and social sciences. Panelists will discuss the challenges of bringing diverse forms of expertise together to offer potential solutions to policy problems. Panelists will invite the audience to think carefully about the role of differing forms of knowledge and expertise; highly credentialed domain experts are necessary for some decisions, but also community and traditional knowledge is necessary to address particular problems.
