Dr. Cara Tannenbaum

Dr. Cara Tannenbaum serves as Departmental Science Advisor for Health Canada since 2019 where she actively advocates for anti-racism science. In her capacity as Scientific Director of the Institute of Gender and Health at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Dr. Tannenbaum spearheads the Indigenous Gender and Wellness Initiative to support the implementation of action-oriented, community-based projects that will improve wellness among Indigenous communities from a gendered perspective. A recipient of the 2020 CSPC Trailblazer Award, Dr. Tannenbaum is a nationally and internationally recognized speaker and moderator for science policy sessions promoting SGBA Plus and Intersectionality. Dr. Tannenbaum obtained her medical degree at McGill University, is a full Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the Université de Montréal and was appointed as a member of the Order of Canada in 2021.
