Lindsay Copland
Public Services and Procurement Canada's Laboratories Canada Program
Manager of Science Policy
Lindsay is the Manager of Science Policy in Public Services and Procurement Canada's Laboratories Canada Program. Her work supports the aims of building the best the federal labs of the future, and creating environments which foster transformative science.
Lindsay has a strong interest in the braiding of multiple ways of knowing. Driven by the question of “whose knowledge counts?”, Lindsay’s Masters’ research explored local ecological knowledge of marine ecosystems. As a member of the Laboratories Canada team, one of the questions she now asks is, “how do you build a lab that welcomes different ways of knowing?”
Prior to joining Laboratories Canada, Lindsay spent 17 years at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). Her work there spanned a variety of fields, including open science and data, science communication, strategic intelligence in regulatory enforcement, adult education and training, and combatting wildlife trafficking.
Lindsay’s education has spanned empirical quantitative science and qualitative social science. She holds a B.Sc. in marine biology from the University of Guelph, and an M.A. in human geography from Carleton University. In her spare time (what little of it there is) she is rediscovering her love of wildlife photography, and enjoys many outdoor pursuits.
