Dr. Snelgrove is Departmental Science Advisor to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. He is also Associate Scientific Director of The Ocean Frontier Institute, Professor of Ocean Sciences and Biology at Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada and he leads the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Canadian Healthy Oceans Network, a national research network that has developed new tools and approaches to support sustainable oceans. His research focuses on biodiversity and functioning of seafloor ecosystems. Dr. Snelgrove received a BSc. Hons degree in Biology at Memorial in 1984, a Master's degree in Oceanography from McGill University in 1984 and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Biology Department at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in 1993.
