David Guston

Foundation Professor and founding director of the School for the Future of Innovation in Society
David Guston is the Foundation Professor and was founding director (2015 – 21) of the School for the Future of Innovation in Society at the Arizona State University. He is also Associate Vice Provost for Discovery, Engagement and Outcomes within the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory. He served as principal investigator and director of the Center for Nanotechnology in Society (CNS-ASU), a National Science Foundation-funded Nano-scale Science and Engineering Center dedicated to studying the societal aspects of nanoscale science and engineering research and improving the societal outcomes of nanotechnologies through enhancing the societal capacity to understand and make informed choices. Key publications include Frankenstein: Annotated for Sciences, Engineers, and Creators of all kinds (David Guston, Ed Finn and Jason Robert, eds., MIT Press, 2017) and Between Politics and Science: Assuring the Integrity and Productivity of Research (Cambridge U. Press, 2000); among many others.
