Professor, Researcher in Residence at the Office of the Chief Science Advisor, Associate Director
Scott Findlay is Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Ottawa, and Associate Director (Graduate Studies) at the Institute of Environment. From 2003-2009, he was the Director of the Institute of the Environment at the University of Ottawa.  He has served on several scientific advisory committees, including the Science Advisory Board of the International Joint Commission, the federal Challenge Advisory Panel for the federal government’s Chemical Management Plan, and the Expert Advisory Panel to the Commissioner of Environment and Sustainable Development. In 2011, he was commissioned by the National Judicial Institute of Canada to produce a manual for Canada’s judiciary on the interpretation of scientific evidence in the courtroom.  In 2013 he co-founded Evidence for Democracy, a national non-partisan organization that advocates for evidence-informed decision-making by governments.  He has been Researcher in Residence at the Office of the federal Chief Science Advisor since 2018 and was the lead author of the federal Model Policy on Scientific Integrity.
