François has been working at Statistics Canada since 1997 in the field of environmental statistics and environmental accounting, with a special emphasis on water statistics and ecosystem goods and services statistics. For the last 10 years he has held the position of Chief of the Research and Development Section. The projects he managed include the “Measuring ecosystem Goods and Services” (MEGS) project, the development of Water Accounts, esp. the Water Yield model, as well as an internationally collaborative project on environmental accounting. He is now responsible for developing a proposal for a Census of the Environment and is deeply involved in the consultation process for the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
