Matt is the Conservative Member of Parliament representing Edmonton Riverbend. Born and raised in Edmonton, Matt attended the University of Alberta, where he graduated in 2004. As a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Matt introduced a private members’ bill entitled Compassionate Care Leave Legislation, the first of its kind in the history of the province. The legislation provides a leave of absence for an employee from his or her employer while taking care of a terminally ill loved one.
As a federal MP, Matt has held several Shadow Minister portfolios, including Health, Infrastructure, and Innovation, Science & Economic Development. He was the Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Health, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology and was a member of the Standing Committee of Transportation and Infrastructure and the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainability.
