Robert was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and has lived in Uganda since 2008. He is a co-founder and executive director of the Young African Refugees for Integral Development (YARID) in Kampala, Uganda. He is a founding member of the Refugee-Led Organizations Network; a founding and steering committee member of the Global Refugee Network, representing sub-Saharan Africa; a refugee advocate; a TED Fellow; an Aspen Institute New Voices Fellow; and an Obama Foundation Emerging African Leader. In August 2017, he gave a TED talk titled “Refugees want empowerment, not handouts” at a TED Global Conference.
